Routing around censorship in Russia

My previous post about citizen journalists in Mexico reminded me of an article I read about a news organisation setting up in Latvia to work around Russian censorship of media.

Censorship works on the timescales that governments work on. It helps governments cover up problems for years or even decades.

Journalist have been killed and otherwise harassed by the Russian government for many years yet there are still people out there willing to risk their lives to get the story out and try to keep the government honest.

BTW, if you're looking at getting some decent information about what's going on in Ukraine, have a look at the videos from Vice News. Some of the video productions from Vice are pretty amazing and like nothing else I'm getting on the television.
